Confined Space Hazard Awareness for Construction

Upon completion of the Confined Space Hazard Awareness for Construction training participants will be able to identify confined spaces and demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements and general procedures for confined space entry, as amended effective September 30, 2006. This is an awareness program only. There is no hands-on component to this program. Course topics may include:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Hazards identification and assessment
- Identifying confined spaces
- Meters and monitors
- Hazard control
- Rescue requirements
- Roles and responsibilities
- Permit systems
Lockout and Tagout
Length of Course: 4 hours

The Lockout and Tagout training course is for workers and supervisors who may be required to provide maintenance or repair work on a piece of machinery/equipment. Participants will learn the importance of the need to lockout and how to help workers make educations decisions working on their equipment. Topics also covered are:
- How to know when lockout is required
- How to lockout as a group
- Understanding the dangers of hazardous energy
Propane in Construction Awareness
Length of course: 4 hours
Expiry: Every 3 years

Upon completion of Propane in Construction Awareness training , participants will be able to recognize and evaluate the hazards associated with propane. They will also be able to safely connect, disconnect, and activate propane equipment up to 400,000 BTUs/hour. This program is accredited by TSSA and is approved as a Record of Training program for propane.
WHMIS in Construction

The WHMIS in Construction 2015 training is an in-class program that provides a generic overview of WHMIS (employers must provide additional WHMIS training tailored to the specific material workers may encounter on each work site). There are three essential components to the program: labels, MSDS, and worker education and training. One of the eight required courses for the Construction Health and Safety Officer Certificate.
Elevating Work Platforms
Length of Course: 3 hours

Elevating Work Platform training – SL Series (Scissor Lifts) participants will gain an understanding of the basic theory of lifting devices, pre-operational daily check overs, safe refueling procedures, operational ability, fall hazards, and safety rules and regulations. Includes a practical evaluation.
Ozone Depletion Prevention Program Overview
Length of Course: 8 hours (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

A one-day environmental awareness training course is offered by the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning institute of Canada or one of their approved training partners. The course and the accompanying materials deal with proper handling of CFC/HCFC/HFCs, and will prepare participants for complying with provincial regulations covering refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Participants who attend the course and successfully achieve a mark of 75% or higher on the exam will receive the certification in the form on an Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate.
Scaffold Users’ Hazard Awareness

All personnel who erect frame, system or tube and coupler supported scaffolds must be certified. The Scaffold Users’ Hazard Awareness training course covers the safe erecting, use, inspection, modification and dismantling of supported base scaffolds. You will learn scaffold planning, foundations, stability, structure, platforms, access, egress, and guards as well as inspection and tagging.
Working at Heights Training
Length of Course: 8 hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Comprehensive one-day Working at Heights training course offering basic fall prevention information required to work safely in areas where workers may be exposed to fall hazards. This course combines theoretical knowledge as well as practical, hands-on training and evaluation. Students will understand the risks of working near fall hazards, how to evaluate protective methods for different scenarios, and proper selection and use of personal protective equipment.
PART 1 – THEORY
- Rights and Responsibilities of Workers, Supervisors and Employers
- Identifying the Hazards of Working at Heights
- Eliminating or Controlling the Hazards of Working at Heights
- Warning Methods and Physical Barriers
- Ladders, Scaffold Systems, Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs), and Suspended Access Equipment
- Personal Fall Protection Systems and Rescue Planning
PART 2 – PRACTICAL
- Barriers and Safety Nets
- Personal Fall Protection Equipment
- Anchor Points
- Work Access Equipment and Platforms
- Rescue Planning
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
In order to participate in the class, learners must bring the following:
* 1 piece of government-issued photo identification
* CSA-certified safety boots
* CSA-certified hardhat
* CSA-certified safety eye-wear/glasses
Participants without the above items will not be permitted to attend the course.
Participants should bring their own personal harness, if available.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
The course will start promptly at the time indicated. Participants who are more than 10 minutes late for the start of the course will not be permitted to take the course and will have to re-book. Participants who do not complete 100% of the instructional time in the course will receive a failing grade and will have to re-take the course.
30 minutes are allocated for lunch during course. Lunch is not provided.
