A career in Occupational Health and Safety focuses on the physical and mental well-being of employees. Individuals in this role work to minimize risks and workplace hazards, and protect the health of workers. They ensure safe workplace environments aim to prevent departures of workers due to health related issues caused by work conditions.
This program provides an overview of safety and workplace health principles and focuses on best practices in ergonomics, hygiene and worker health and wellness. Areas of study include hazard recognition, safety audit analysis, environmental issues, fire protection, laws, ethics, risk management.
The Occupational Health and Safety Officer program at Herzing College is approved by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take a certification exam that leads to the Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) Certification. In addition, graduates that accumulate four years of work experience in the industry will also be eligible to take the exam that leads to a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certification. Both certifications are widely recognized and sought after by many organizations hiring safety professionals across Canada.
