This program is accredited by the ADR Institute of Ontario, ADR Institute of Canada and meets the basic mediation education training component required to achieve the ADR national and provincial Qualified Mediator designation.

The Mediation for Professionals certificate will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to negotiate, mediate, manage and resolve issues and support decision making in a wide range of professional settings. This course is designed for those wishing to become mediators, who are involved in or organise mediation processes, or who seek a greater understanding of the skills involved in mediation.

The aim of this program is to provide an understanding of the general principles of mediation and a comparison of the main alternative dispute resolution processes - arbitration, mediation and adjudication. The course will give candidates a basic understanding of the principles of good practice and procedure in mediation.

This 12 week certificate is delivered fully online so that you can complete assignments when it's most convenient for you, all while receiving support from a dedicated instructor and interacting with classmates. As part of the course students will participate in 10 hours of mandatory role play sessions via conference call with the instructor and fellow classmates, in order to meet training requirements outlined by the ADRIO and ADRIC. The Instructor also offers optional weekly live sessions via conference call to participate in discussions.

The mandatory role play sessions via conference call typically take place on Wednesdays from 6:30 -8:30 PM EST*

Who Can Take the Course?

Individuals interested in the course must have post-secondary education (degree/diploma) or relevant experience. The course is intended for candidates who are new to the field of mediation, those who wish to learn more about mediation and its benefits to users, and those who are considering further study to become a mediator and wish to become an member of the ADR Institute of Canada, ADR Institute of Ontario or other provincial ADR associations.

A $200 non-refundable registration fee is charged to register for the course. We offer a payment plan for tuition of three equal payments of $798.33 at week 3, week 6, and week 9.

Laura Gray

  • Instructor, Mediation for Professionals

Over the past several years, Laura has been a successful practitioner in the field of Family and Civil Mediation and has worked in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. She is the Principal of Grayline Group; a company providing solutions for individuals going through a life transition. While she provides Mediation services exclusively; her company offers the services of top professionals who specialize in the following areas: divorce, marriage, death, illness and wealth preservation.

Laura is unwavering in her commitment to offer responsive services and solutions to clients.In addition, Laura serves as a Managing Partner of Lugen Family Office (“LFO”).

 

Tricia Morris

  • Instructor, Mediation for Professionals

For several years, Tricia has been a successful practitioner in the fields of: Family, Civil, Workplace and Insurance Mediation. She is a partner in Consilum Mediation Group, with offices in Toronto and Ottawa. Tricia completed the Dispute Resolution Certificate from York University and has completed training in domestic violence and child protection mediation.

Tricia enjoys using her skills to assist couples in transition and disputing parties to communicate and participate in building their own mutually agreeable outcomes. Tricia holds both the Alternative Dispute Institute of Ontario’s Q. Med designation and the Ontario Association for Family Mediation’s Acc. FM designation and currently works as a Family Mediator at the Superior Court of Justice.

Louie Anthony Spedaliere LL.B (Hons)

  • Instructor, Mediation for Professionals

Mr. Spedaliere provides legal services in Ontario; teaches in the areas practicing focusing on dispute resolution; Instructor at Herzing College, KOMPASS Professional Development, Mediation For Professionals; The Board of Directors of Tres-Or appointed Mr. Spedaliere as an advising director of Tres-Or Resources Ltd. January 2018. (TRS:TSX.V) a Canadian company with projects exploring for gold, diamonds and silver.

Mr. Spedaliere’s academic background includes: Harvard Law School’s PIL -Mediation, Dispute Resolution taught by Professor’s Linda Singer, Michael Lewis and Frank Sander who is considered to be the father of (ADR) Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2003; Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview, Mediation Training in 2004; Awarded a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, LL.B (Hons), at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University U.K. (Ranked one of the best universities in the world) in 2006; Authored an honours thesis titled: ‘ The Benefits of Family Mediation as Compared to the Traditional Adversarial Approach’ ; In 2006 became an Associate Member of Ontario Association For Family Mediation; Granted a licence to provide legal services by The Law Society of Upper Canada in 2010.

 

Hayley MacPhail

  • Instructor, Mediation for Professionals

Hayley is an accredited mediator with the Ontario Association of Family Mediators. As a Counselor, she has a Masters degree from U/T in the Counselling Psychology program. She specializes in post-modernist theories, such as Brief therapy, Narrative strategies and Control mastery theories as well as Cognitive theory and CBT. Her undergraduate work trained her as a Child and Youth Worker, specializing in child development and behaviour in various milieus. She has co-created over 50 parenting plans with a range of needs, issues and stages of child development as well as adult changes in executive and cognitive functioning. 

 Hayley has been teaching post secondary diploma and degree courses for 25 years. She has found the mix of learning and practising very potent for professional and personal growth as well as supporting clients.  A time to reflect on how we do our work.  And she hopes to learn from you! 

Since returning to the mediation field, she has immersed herself in working with high conflict families and believes supporting families in crisis is essential and dynamic work.
