A search without a warrant may be lawful if the court finds that certain “exigent circumstances” existed at the time of the search that required police to take immediate action to ensure their safety or to secure and preserve evidence before obtaining judicial authorization (warrant) and in which it was not feasible to obtain judicial authorization before executing a search or seizure.
