Whether one uses a pencil to draw a sketch or a laser to create a three dimensional rendering, the reason for documenting a crime scene is the same, to create a record of the scene that “preserves” the conditions that existed when the crime scene was first identified in order to allow investigators, lawyers, and a court to make informed judgments about the value of evidence.
It has been noted by the courts that cases can be won or lost at the initial time of the investigation and officers notes will have a tremendous impact on the outcome of the investigation and the court case.
This module will discuss various ways of creating these notes to ensure a positive outcome.
