Clinic Office Assistant
The Clinical Office Assistant plays an important role in the medical office team. Clinical office assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices and clinics of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists running smoothly. The duties of clinical office assistants vary from office to office, depending on office location, size, and specialty. They answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle correspondence, schedule appointments, arrange for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handle billing and bookkeeping.
Clinical duties may include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, performing visual acuity tests, performing simple lab tests such as urinalysis, performing Electrocardiograms, removing sutures, changing sterile dressings, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during patient examinations.
This program provides an overview of clinical office principles, practices, and operations with focus on developing clinical office assistant skills. Areas of study include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical and laboratory procedures, word processing, and clinical office scheduling and billing software.
