Campus Launches Green Campaign.

With an eye on environmental preservation and practice, Herzing College - Montreal is proud to announce its latest all-campus initiative.

“Moving forward we will focus on programs and activities that help to foster a greener, more practical future,” said campus president Hayat Telmat Drinali.

This fall, Herzing College will launch the area’s first Sustainable Architecture diploma course of study. A new logo, a dark blue “H” with a green leaf, designed to signify and mark this and future areas of study focused on greener standards of living, is being rolled out with the new course.

Offered weekdays from 8 am to 1 pm, the new 18-month program will focus on the conception of viable buildings using products compliant with sustainable development norms.

“We are delighted to be moving in this direction,” Drinali said. Campus officials have worked closely with local architects to create a smart curriculum that takes into consideration current and possible future trends and needs, Drinali said.

But that’s not all. College administration will continue to look for other ways to save energy while already employing a handful of environmentally-friendly practices on their aesthetically-sound campus situated in a green, park-like area, including:

  • Recycling paper, cans, and toner
  • Encouraging use of bike racks
  • Looking into more energy-efficient lighting, cafeteria packaging, and less energy-impactful ways to commute
  • Enforcing a smoke-free environment

“Our staff is committed to taking steps toward becoming greener,” Drinali said. “By using less and making smarter environmental and business choices, we can impact the future of our planet. And, we are delighted that Herzing College has a part in educating the builders and designers of tomorrow.”

Herzing College – Montreal Launches Sustainable Architecture Program and Android Application Development Course to Provide Students with Contemporary Job Skills

September 19, 2011

MONTREAL (September 19, 2011) – Herzing College – Montreal has introduced two new educational offerings to help prepare students with the contemporary skills needed in today’s workforce. Techniques of Sustainable Architecture is a new program for individuals in the construction industry to learn about “green” architecture techniques. An Android Application Development course also has been added to the Programmer Analyst program to provide students with skills to develop applications for the Google Android smart phone operating system.

“The sustainable architecture program is designed to give students the skills needed to become experts in green construction techniques which are in high demand in today’s world,” said Hayat Drinali, Campus President, Herzing College – Montreal. “There is also a huge demand for individuals who have the skills to program mobile devices using the Android operating system. The addition of these two educational offerings is designed to provide our students with skills that give them a competitive edge in their chosen professions,” Drinali added.

The Sustainable Architecture Program combines creative and technical skills to prepare students for challenging jobs in the architecture, engineering, property development and construction industries. Students will learn approaches to green technology and renewable energy, and will be trained to improve the energy performance of buildings. This 18-month program allows students to gain valuable experience and practice in architectural design and includes a 12-week internship.

The Android Application Development course helps turn innovative ideas into complex and dynamic applications for smart phones using the Google Android operating system. All applications are written using the Java programming language. The course is provided as part of Herzing College – Montreal’s Programmer Analyst program which prepares students with the knowledge and skills required in the software development industry.

The 16-month Programmer Analyst program includes a 14-week internship to provide students with valuable practical experience in the information technology industry. Herzing College – Montreal is now accepting applications for the Programmer Analyst program starting on October 24, 2011.

They sampled local cuisine, belly-danced, and even received a dinner invitation.

When Herzing College’s Maggie Tsoukalas, Admissions, and Zena Kejjo, Financial Aid, spent four days in Casablanca, Morocco last April at a student recruitment forum, they were clearly among friends.

“We were tourists in a foreign land, but we never felt like foreigners,” Tsoukalas said.

“The Moroccan people are very hospitable and welcoming.”

The staff members attended the “Forum International de l’Etudiant,” where hundreds gathered to learn more about studying abroad. Tsoukalas and Kejjo talked up the smart educational opportunities offered at the Herzing College Montreal campus, happily mixing business with pleasure.

“We met representatives from many countries such as France, Germany, Russia, and of course, Canada,” Kejjo said. Perspective students were very curious.

“The most common question was about costs,” Kejjo said.

The father of a Herzing College –Montreal student generously invited the women to dinner. And during a special Moroccan-themed night arranged for visitors, Tsoukalas finished 3rd in a belly-dancing competition.

“We had a few laughs and we will always cherish the memories,” Kejjo said.

All in all, a very successful trip, according to the women, but time will ultimately tell.

“We look forward to seeing new international faces from Morocco,” Tsoukalas said.

Sugaring-Off in Quebec

Thursday, March 18, 2010

In keeping with Quebec tradition, students from the Montreal campus will be participating in Herzing College’s annual sugaring-off event. Students will be able to enjoy a French Canadian meal in a French Canadian ambiance, and let’s not forget the tasty maple taffy on snow. Students will also be able to enjoy the beauties of nature while strolling through lovely paths or by taking a ride on a horse-driven sleigh.
